Community Outreach
 

Vacation Bible School – Annual summer event for children 3 years of age and up. Bible stories, crafts, games, snacks and songs are enjoyed.  Click on the “Youth” tab in the main menu above for details on our 2019 Vacation Bible School.


Valentines for Vets – Creative card making activity. Cards are made to show our love, support and appreciation to all Veterans. They are sent to Lebanon VA Medical Center.

Blanket Sunday – Annual event where people are invited to bring handmade, gently used or new blankets, quilts, sheet sets and baby blankets to be donated to homeless shelters and other organizations for distribution to those in need.

Heifer Project International – This organization provides livestock to poor and poorly fed people worldwide and teaches the receivers how to care for their animals. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas. During Lent, Shaffer’s Church receives donations through Ark Bank collection boxes which are given to Heifer.

CROP Hunger Walk – Our congregation participates through our local chapter, Jefferson Area CROP Walk. CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. Harvest Home – Fresh produce along with commercially canned goods and boxed items are donated and displayed on tables in the front of the Sanctuary. The worship service is a celebration of God’s greatness in granting us a bountiful harvest. All donations are given to a local food pantry.

St. Jacob’s Food Pantry– Local food and clothing pantry that Shaffer’s Church supports throughout the year. It is a joint ministry of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church and St. Jacob’s UCC of York New Salem. http://www.stjacobsluthyns.com
